Why I Support Israel

One important difference between myself and many others who are observing the current wave of antisemitism and anti-Israeli attitudes are questions of time and first-hand experience. When I attended university in the mid-nineties, Israel was already labeled as a racist and apartheid state. This trend is nothing new, but rather a slow and progressive spreading of an anti-Israeli sentiment within the university system and now the culture at large.
There was little doubt, decades ago, that two camps were emerging, and continued to take shape in the “West”.
However, there is a tendency to over-intellectualise the academic and political classes that seek the dismemberment of Israel. There is truly nothing intelligent about “Gay for Gaza” or the feminist who believes the betterment of womankind is found in a Yemeni terrorist camp. Thus, I will refer to the first camp as the “Crackpots,” and the movement as a whole “Crackpotism.”
The Crackpots are not only anti-Israel, but anti-American, and even anti-civilisation. Under the guise of Crackpotism, all the “values” are found in Hamas, Hezbollah, and within the Etoro tribe of Papua New Guinea. That is, all the “goodness”, exists within the most violent and bizarre groups on earth.
Thus, anything that is weak, disorganized, confused, and easily dominated is “good.” Anything that is strong, independent, and hardworking is “evil.” Of course, Israel gets fixated on because Crackpotism is not really about land or justice. It’s about hating the competent, the unapologetically successful, especially when they’re Jewish and refuse to play victim.
The “Crackpots” are not only for the destruction of Israel but the demise of Western Civilisation itself. For this group, everything must be “transformed,” “revolutionised,” and “deconstructed.” There exists within this group a general disdain for anything masculine and anything that wants to better itself. The Crackpots also seek the replacement of Western Civilisation with the strangest blend of Islam and — hatred and jealousy — masked as social justice. Another feature of Crackpotism is the perpetual adolescent fantasy that the “rich” are cruel and tyrannical.
In consequence, all the evil is found within the capitalists, entrepreneurs, and of course the “Jews”.
The second camp, which I will refer to as the “normal people,” values freedom of speech, the free flow of capital, and individual liberty. Israel clearly belongs within this group. Israel, by all measures and accounts, is a full-fledged democracy. It has the ability to participate in discussions on what it means to be human, male, and female. It has contributed to the advancement of science and technology, bettering the conditions of civilisation as a whole. For example, the USB flash drive was invented in Israel, as well as a tiny ingestible camera, the Pillcam, which allows doctors to perform advanced internal diagnostics. In addition, Israel ranks globally in the top ten in terms of both medical and technological innovation.
In the simplest of terms, I can have a normal discussion with an Israeli about investment, job creation, and the role of men and women within society. Meanwhile, it is utterly impossible to discuss anything with the “Crackpots” who seek only the dismemberment of Israel, its industries, and the disfiguration of the West.
Within the United States and Israel, there is a “last-stand” culture. It values freedom of speech, the free flow of capital, and individual liberty. If the current trends continue, my fear is that the “Crackpot” crowd will continue to gain a hold on society.
